3.) What is going on with Mr. Dolphus Raymond? He pretends to be drunk so
that others won't judge the way he acts. Discuss what he wants
overlooked and why he would want to act this way.
I believe that Mr Dolphus Raymond pretends to be drunk all the time so people just think he has a problem and needs to get in shape. It hides his inner self because nobody knows what his sober side is. It leaves him mysterious to others so they don't know exactly how to judge him.

I kind of agree with you but I also think he does it so that people won't judge him as much for hanging out with blacks, if everyone thinks he's drunk then they will think its okay for him to be around them, but yeah I'd have to say that he's also just hiding part of himself from the rest of the world
I think he pretends to be drunk so that if he does what he wants to or what he thinks is right, people can't judge him... they'll just assume it's because he's drunk. It leaves him alot of wiggle room to mess up.
I think he is embarrased of what others will think of him. He's not really a bad person. But people think he is because they think that he drinks and because he likes to be around black people
I agree 100% with Jessie on this one! I think if he would act drunk people will think he is really different that he acts so people wont judge him on things.
Yeah he wont get judged very badly if he acts like he is drunk just so he can hang out with black people
I think he just wants people to notice him so he gets drunk.
I think Bryce is on the right track. You can do some pretty stupid things if people think you're drunk.
Dolphus is using this as a kind of shield so that people leave him alone and don't judge him.
Incidentally, it protects people other than just Dolphus.
I agree with bryce. He acts drunk to have room to mess up.

I agree with randi and jess. Maybe he drinks just so that people will only think about that and not about him hanging out with blacks
I believe that if Tom Robinson is the bad guy that he doesn't want people to think that he employed him while he was in his rightful mind. He wants people to think that he was drunk and wasn't really thinking at the time.
Personally I think that he says that he's drunk when he acts like a complete idot , is because I knows that he is not acting the way he should so he tries to hide it by using an excuse. Also, he might just not want people to know the real him.

I think that Raymond lets others think that he drinks because he doesn't want others to notice his peculiarities. Other people think that the alcohol is the reason he is strange, he lets them think that because he does not want others to know he just likes different things.
I agree with Jess. Since Mr. Raymond is known for always being with the blacks, he probably uses being drunk as an excuse so other people won't judge him. He uses being drunk as a way to hide things of himself from everybody else. But as I think about it I really don't think he is an insecure person, it's just in his situation and what he believes in, being drunk is the only excuse he can use to keep himself safe.
I think that raymond acts drunk so he can be as crude and inapropriate as pssible and not get in any real trouble.
I agree with Jessie. He doesn't want people to judge him for hanging out with black people, and people would think it was okay for him to hang out with the black people if he was drunk. But I also think that he is afraid that people might not like all of him so he has to get drunk to hide the side he doesn't want to show.

I agree with Brian that maybe he is trying to hide his true personality. Maybe there is something about him that he doesn't like about himself so he tries to hide it. When he is known as a drunk people know him and he is noticed maybe he is not used to being noticed so he likes the attention.

He might be using alcohol as way to say to people, look at me, I have an alcohol problem, so there's nothing wrong with what I'm doing...
I was just going to say exactly what Bryce said maybe he used alchol to ind of cover things up a bit.
Well i think that he shouldn't have to hide anything. He shouldn't be embarrased to be around black people. I don't think he should care what other people think.

I don't remember him getting drunk and trying to get the attention in this book at this moment.
